HiWi Position for System Administration at the ASE IT-Group

About Us

Welcome to the IT-Group (ITG) at the Research Group for Applied Software Engineering! Our team consists of six dedicated student administrators, and our mission is to support and maintain Artemis and its associated systems, including monitoring, test systems, and the programming exercise build system. Additionally, we manage a variety of services such as Atlassian Confluence, Jira, Keycloak SSO, security infrastructures like Vault and Bitwarden, and numerous smaller services.

We are proud of our self-operated Hypervisor cluster based on Proxmox, which currently includes 13 physical servers (700+ CPU cores 3.5TB+ RAM). Moreover, we maintain multiple GPU servers as the computational backbone for our teaching and research initiatives involving large language models (LLMs). Our tech stack includes cutting-edge tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Terraform. The ITG team enjoys the freedom to implement their own projects and continuously optimize processes, services, and infrastructure. We prioritize creating an excellent working and learning environment.

Your Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

As a member of our team, you will engage in diverse tasks, with your main responsibilities centering on the development and maintenance of Artemis and its supporting systems.

Your role will include:

  • Working with Atlassian services, Artemis, Ansible, Git, Gitlab, Linux, VMs, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Participating in weekly team and work meetings.
  • Reporting your progress regularly.

Experience and Profile:

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are eager to acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Are willing to take on responsibilities.
  • Are reliable and self-organized.
  • Are fluent in German and English.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Are interested in a long-term HiWi job (at least 4 semesters).

Additionally, you should have a solid foundation in:

  • Git and Git workflows.
  • Command Line Interfaces.
  • Docker.
  • Linux.
  • Basic networking concepts (DNS/DHCP/IPv4/IPv6).

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, virtualization, and networking.
  • 25+ years of experience with Kubernetes !!11! (Kidding ;))
